We need to nip this in the bud.
I say “we” even though I’m not a citizen of the UK, because governments all over the world are watching and gauging our response.
I say “we” even though we may disagree with Tommy Robinson on many issues, if the media decide they want us to be extremists, they simply label us so.
This unrelenting slander means we’re all Tommy Robinson; we’re all far-right flat-Earth hate-mongering neo-Nazi hyper-Calvinist gun-toting Russia-colluding extremists.
The arrest of Tommy Robinson reeks of the unearned arrogance of petty, incompetent idiots that have been entrusted with power solely because anyone remotely competent is doing something productive. These half-wits with delusions of grandeur think they can throw a man in jail indiscriminately; his family be damned, his livelihood be damned, his dreams be damned.
After the attacks on the US embassy in Benghazi, the US State department decided to spin the attacks as being a result of a Youtube video to deflect from their incompetence.
The filmmaker, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, needed to be a villain for the spin to work, and so he was arrested on some trumped up charges and thrown in jail.
His purpose served, they forgot about him.
There were not widespread arrests of dissidents under Obama. From Nakoula’s perspective, though, the arrest rate was 100%.
We are Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, and we are Tommy Robinson.
Political repression does not need to come in the form of a Stalinist regime. If some incompetent, neurotic idiots with unchecked power decide to target us, we are 100% imprisoned and our life in shambles.
We have got to check that power and remind our government servants that they serve at our pleasure.
